Before his crucifixion and after his resurrection, Jesus promises the gift of his own presence, the Holy Spirit. But how are we to understand this promise? And how can it be an animating doctrine of our Christian walk? The first four sermons of Family Worship will explore the person and work of the Holy Spirit in some of the classic texts from the Gospels and Pauline Epistles.

As we are encouraged to let the Spirit work through us, we also will call one another to deeper prayer as we discover what it means for us to pray in the Spirit. In portraits from the Old Testament, we see that prayer is theology; these passages shed light not only on how we are bid to pray, but also reveal the character of God. We aren't prone to considering the events of the day as God's interaction with us, yet each moment is an invitation to prayer. These passages lead us to pray in the gritty "now" of our lives; they show us prayer in the midst of life, not just as a break from life.
