Ryan Pemberton, Minister for University Engagement
Ryan hails from the Pacific Northwest, where he went to Western Washington University and studied Psychology and Business Administration. After several years working in marketing and public relations, Ryan felt the Lord’s call to study theology. He has a passion for teaching, discussing, and writing about theology, faith, and culture—with and for today’s generation. He went on to study theology at Duke Divinity School and Oxford University. While at Oxford he lived in C. S. Lewis’ former home, served as President of the Oxford University C. S. Lewis Society, and co-founded the Oxford Open Forum, an inter-religious dialogue group. Ryan recently published his first book, a memoir on calling, and has written for Image Journal, Christianity Today, Duke University Chapel, Bible Study Magazine, and Relevant magazine; he serves on the Board of Directors for Jesus’ Economy, an international non-profit organization that creates jobs and churches in the developing world. Austin Rehbein, University Ministries Associate
Austin grew up in Waukesha, WI, before following the sunshine to Azusa Pacific University in Southern California. There she studied English literature and theology, fostered a love the great outdoors, and became passionate about holistic ministry where spiritual growth is be interwoven with academic passion and relationships in community. After a gap year in Wisconsin interning with youth ministry, she attended Princeton Theological Seminary where she received her Masters in Divinity. With various stints in Lisbon, Portugal; Oxford, England; Athens, Greece; and Yosemite National Park, Austin is passionate about traveling and making new friends wherever she is. She is a lover of stories and enjoys using literature as a source of theological imagination and spiritual formation. Austin cannot wait to bring her background in spiritual direction and writing to the First Pres community and is eager to spend time getting to know students and to walk beside them as they navigate their lives and faith.
